A Life Changing Experience

It was like any other Sunday that we will go through every week except it was very tiring for me because it was a very busy week for me. On the 23 January 2011, I attended a seminar by Youth World entitle Future of Success. At first, I wasn’t sure that this was a good seminar worth filling your Sunday with. The line to register was awful because many students from like over 50 schools attended the seminar. Well, that is until the people in charge of registering the students stopped and started to give the Sunway College bags. The bags were found in blue and black with vouchers and a notebook inside!

I was really happy to get the vouchers. Yeah! Indescribable feeling… Oh ya, getting back to the seminar experience, we had to walk four flights of stairs which took roughly forever! Thanks to God, the pain was rewarded. As we entered the seminar, I was like “Wow. Looks like a big hall to me.” It wasn’t the fancy type of seminar but it was worth going to. When I was sited, I realize that one of my ex – senior from SMK (P) Sri Aman was doing volunteering work for Youth World. I had forgotten her name, but one thing for sure, she was once famous in the eyes of the Sri Amanians.
My friends and I were bored while waiting for the seminar to start so we danced to the beat and took some pictures . Sadly, I did not bring my camera so I had to take pictures with my phone. I could only take three pictures! Arghh!!!! When Choo Mei Sze came out to greet us I was thrilled to see her on stage as our emcee. Before, the real thing happened we were introduced to Mr. Eddie Lim, the founder of Youth World.

He gave us a shock when he showed us how long his speech was but lucky it was a few minutes only. A little introduction about this successful man... Shall we start? He was the sole Malaysian gold medalist the Vietnam 2003 SEA Games, one of the only four Malaysian international Taekwondo exponents who made it both the 2004 World and Asian region Olympians qualifying stages. He was also a top student in his university and school, scoring straight A’s for UPSR, PMR and SPM examination. Wow. It is rather impressive how one could achieve a lot.

Hurray to Mr. Eddie Lim! Alright, the emcee called out the founders to the stage for the opening ceremony. The air of was full of joy and the sound of the crowd clapping. The hall burst with streamers flying around in the cool air-condition hall. It was full of colourful and shiny ones. The look on everyone’s faces were smiling and flashes came out from a few cameras located everywhere in the hall.
Next after the opening ceremony, Choo Mei Sze introduced us to Prof. Dato’ Dr. Chin See Keat. He was the VIP guest for the day. The title of his inspiring talk was ‘Be Your Best, Be Your Own Boss’. It was a speech that open our minds that in order to succeed, it is best to be your own boss in whatever you are doing. A bit of Prof. Dato’ Dr. Chin See Keat is the founder of our very own England Optical Group and a host of other companies. Under his guidance, the England Optical Group has expanded from just one outlet to an international brand in Vietnam, Cambodia and China. He also is the Honorary Chairman of the Malaysian Retailer-Chains Association (MRCA), member of ASEAN Business Advisory Council, founder of the ASEAN Retail Chain& Franchise Federation (ARFF). Wow! No wonder he has many titles in front of he’s name.

“Introducing the winners of the Asian Youth Ambassador 2009 award, Mr. Yeoh Chen Chow and Mr. Saiful Nang!” said Eddie Lim (emcee for the forum: The Success Story) This forum taught us true the meaning of not giving up. They told us about their difficult stories of the past until the stage that they are now. It was one of the most touching stories one could hear. I am grateful to have what I have today.
Alright, here comes one of the funniest people I’ve met at the seminar. Dr. Christopher Wong! Something that I can describe about him is he has this unique taste of everything. About learning, clothes and well yeah! Almost everything... He explained to us about our brain in a very funny way. I sincerely wouldn’t believe anyone if they said they were sleeping during his speech. It’s almost impossible. He filled the hall with laughter that was missing from us for hours.
We were so freaking hungry! I could hear my tummy rumble. Finally! Lunch was served but it took a long time to get our food because there were many students and lesser servers. Ok, maybe not servers but volunteers? There was also a Taekwondo Demo which was so awesome. It was cool how they synchronize their moves, and do their kicks. Yeah! I escaped half of the demo because I had to pray and it was so dark in the prayer hall and I could hardly see. In other words , it was pitched black! Horrible and scary feeling. Actually, it was my first time praying in the dark. Well outside of my house of course.

When I came back, sadly the forum: No Pain, No Gain had already started. The Olympians were Ms. Khoo Cai Lin (the fast swimmer), Ms. Che Chew Chan ( the tough and tall Taekwondo exponent) and Mr. K.M.Rajendran (Mr. Professional athlete). They told how they went threw their struggle and pain to get to where they are now.
Next, Ms. Amber Chia! The pretty, tall, Chinese Malaysian model is in the house! She talked on her sad life from Sabah and how she struggled to even get a place in the model industry. Later, we were surprised by a catwalk performance by five models from Amber Chia Academy. The only man, who was there as the model. I must say he is really tall for a fifteen year old boy! By the way, he’s name is Alex.

Later, Let’s Meet Friends showed us a video presentation on Green Living and Eco Awareness. And the seminar ended with the most talented young orphan singers from Rumah Prihatin. The songs are “We are the world” and “My Wish”. WE actually sang along because we were so touched by their singing performance. Happily we ended our day with some pictures with my friends while waiting for my dad to go home.
